POSITION: MAINTENANCE WORKER II

Montana State University-Billings is the third largest University in Montana and is located in Montana’s largest city. The Senior campus, College of Technology and Downtown campus together are home to approximately 5,000 students. The University has six colleges, which offer a wide variety of degree programs to its students. Montana State University-Billings employs approximately 500 employees, who together work hard to create an outstanding University.
Facilities Services Department:
Maintenance Service Center is under the direction and supervision of the Director of Facilities Services, which is the department responsible for the general maintenance of all campus buildings and grounds. This department consists of an Administrative Division, Maintenance Division, Grounds Division, custodial Division and Campus Communications Center. Additionally, the department is responsible for the planning and programming of new construction and renovations.
Position Description:
The employee works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, performing a variety of duties related to the maintenance and operation of the buildings and grounds. The employee at times supervises a crew of temporary laborers doing extensive moving of furniture, equipment and supplies. The employee is responsible:
· coordinate some of these moves with various departments and see that they are completed on schedule.
· for picking up supplies and merchandise from local vendors for use by various crafts.
· for carrying and signing checks for cash purchases up to $300.00.
· to perform a variety of duties related to the maintenance and operation of the buildings and grounds as necessary, including the operation of forklifts, tractors with snow brooms and front end loaders.
· to work with carpenters, plumbers, temperature control and electricians in a helper capacity.
· for the preventative maintenance and minor repairs of fleet vehicles.
· for maintenance of an equipment recordkeeping file of fleet vehicles and scheduling the required maintenance.
Equipment and Machinery used on the job include the operation and maintenance of trucks, front end loaders, tractors with snow brooks, forklifts and small power tools.
Qualifications:
Ø High School diploma or GED.
Ø Must have a current, valid and insurable driver’s license.
Ø Basic mechanical aptitude for maintenance of mechanical equipment within buildings and at least two (2) years experience in related type work.
Ø Basic mechanical aptitude for maintenance of fleet vehicles and at least two (2) years experience in related type work.
Ø Basic knowledge of moving office and classroom furniture and equipment with two (2) years experience in related type work.
