MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY BILLINGS is a state supported university located in Montana’s largest city.  Third largest of six units of the Montana University System, it has a student enrollment of approximately 4,800. MSU B is recognized as a regional leader in the preparation of teachers, drawing students from a wide area for undergraduate and graduate study, and in innovative educational initiatives, including online programs leading to teacher certification. The College of Education faculty is a dynamic group of professionals engaged in helping undergraduate and graduate students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to become exemplary educators.  Reaccredited by NCATE in 2002, MSU B was the 2003 recipient of the prestigious AACTE award for Best Practice in Support of Teacher Preparation Accreditation. 

 

DESCRIPTION: The Department of Educational Theory and Practice seeks a dynamic individual who is enthusiastic about teaching and is committed to working collaboratively with faculty colleagues.  Candidates should have experience and expertise in teaching courses in instructional strategies (methods) of social studies at the elementary, secondary and graduate level.  Candidates must be prepared to teach innovatively in the classroom and online. 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties will include but are not necessarily limited to:

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in social foundations, social studies education and curriculum theory and design. 
  2. Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
  3. Supervise students in practicum and student teaching settings.
  4. Engage in scholarly activities, including research, professional writing, professional presentations, and grant writing
  5. Provide service to the College and community through committee work, student recruitment and retention efforts, task force membership, accreditation activities, continuous improvement activities (CQI) and general community service.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Earned doctorate in education or related discipline from an accredited institution, with an emphasis in curriculum and social studies education.  ABD applicants will be considered. 
  2. Successful College/University teaching experience.
  3. Teaching experience in public/private school settings or other professional experiences in education settings.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to professional scholarship
  5. Experience in working collaboratively on professional teams.
  6. Ability to collaborate in College of Education grant initiatives.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively with public and private school personnel.
