Note/Disclaimer: new guidance on COVID-19 Leave is continually being updated and adjusted. Please continue to check this site, or contact Human Resources or Payroll.
CV-19 Leave Request Form:
Please send the completed form to Human Resources at email@example.com.
Paid Leave Is Available to Employees Affected by COVID-19
There are state and federal paid leaves available to MSUB employees who have been affected directly or indirectly by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Please work with Human Resources to ensure you and/or your employees are able to make the best use of these leaves.
How do I request to use these leaves?
Employees must notify their supervisor and/or the HR office of the need and specific reason for leave. Please submit the CV-19 Leave Request Form (above). If the form is not immediately practical or is delayed in the signature process, please email human resources at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know the details of the request before the end of the pay period in which the requested COVID leave will fall.
Additional Details About COVID-Leaves
Stave COVID-19 Leave – Effective date: March 16, 2020
- Provides paid leave to employees who are unable to work or telework during their isolation/quarantine; to care for an individual who is subject to quarantine; when an employee is required to stay home due to COVID-19 related closure of a school, childcare or eldercare facility; or when remote work is not available or remote work does not fill a 40 hour work week.
- State COVID-19 Leave applies to all leave-eligible employees, including new hires. There is no wait-period to use this leave.
Federal Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) – Effective Date: April 1, 2020
- Provides paid leave to employees who are unable to work or telework during their own isolation/quarantine, to care for an individual who is subject to a federal/state/local isolation/quarantine, or who need to care for a minor child due to a COVID-19 related school or child care closure.
- Federal EPSL applies to all employees, including new hires. There is no wait-period.
Expanded FMLA Act: (effective April 1) For employees who are unable to work (or telework) due to a need to care for their child when the school or place of care has been closed, or the regular childcare provider is unavailable due to a public health emergency with respect to COVID-19. All employees who have been employed with MSUB for at least 30 days are eligible for the Expanded FMLA. The first 10 days of Expanded FMLA leave is unpaid; however, employees may use their own paid leave accruals during this time, or may also elect to use the paid leave provided under the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act (EPSL) or the State COVID leave if eligible. Our existing FMLA leave policy still applies to all other reasons for eligible FMLA leave outside of this guidance.
How do the State and Federal Leaves Work Together?
Eligible employees are able to access both the State COVID-19 and Federal EPSL for the qualify reasons defined under each leave. Under certain circumstances, employees may take state leave for a qualifying reason and then take federal EPSL for a qualifying reason. Please work with Human Resources to ensure you or your employees are able to make the best use of these leaves.
