Resources for Counselors and Parents

How Can I Help My Student Choose a Health Career?

You can help your teens select careers by helping them identify their interests and strengths. As they go through high school and learn more about the world of work, they should start to consider what might be their ideal work environment. Salary is also a consideration. In 2005, salaries for MSU Billings graduates with degrees in the health science career pathways ranged from $19,413 to $60,000.

Below are online resources to help you and your student:
""
° Career Services Office
(a multitude of resources and questions your teen should consider when choosing a career in healthcare)
""
° Parent Checklist
(a checklist to help you assist your teen in selecting a career and staying on track in high school)
  ""

""
° Volunteer/Enrichment Activities
Volunteer activities and summer camps can be a fun way for students to learn more about careers in healthcare. Volunteering can also help to enhance a student's application to competitive-entry health majors. Here are a few possibilities in and around the Billings area:
  Billings Clinic
    St. Vincent Healthcare
    St. John's Lutheran Ministries
    Health Occupations Students of America
    Big Sky Senior Services
    Yellowstone City-County Health Department
