Information about the H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Virus

Viruses that cause both seasonal flu and H1N1 (Swine Flu) are circulating in the community at this time.  It is important to be informed about how to protect yourself from the viruses and how to help yourself if you think you have one of them.

Prevention is Your Most Important Tool

• Wash your hands often with soap and water.  If you are not near water, use a 60% to 95% alcohol based cleaner, such as Purell.

• Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, and mouth.

• Cover your cough with a tissue that you can discard after use, or cough into your elbow or shirt.  If you cough into your hand, you will spread the virus onto the next surface that you touch.

• Avoid close contact (stay 6 feet away) with anyone who is ill.  Get a seasonal flu shot when it is available.  This vaccine will not protect you against the H1N1 virus.
