Welcome
It is with pleasure that I welcome you to Montana State
University Billings.
I am delighted you have chosen this University to pursue your academic goals as
you continue preparing for your career.
I am extremely proud of our heritage offering academic excellence in all
programs of study and our commitment to provide personal attention to all
students. MSU-Billings is an outstanding University. The faculty are a community
of scholars dedicated to teaching and mentoring excellence. They will challenge
you academically, share their knowledge, and interact with you on a one-to-one
basis.
All degree programs at MSU-Billings are designed to give students the
necessary academic preparation to enter their chosen career fully prepared to
meet the demands of a changing job market and to pursue lifelong learning.
Several new academic programs are now available providing additional degree
choices. These include the Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies, the Bachelor
of Applied Science, and a teaching minor in Computer Science. You will find
these programs and their requirements in the Undergraduate
General Bulletin.
The University has initiated a number of enhancements designed to help
students succeed in their academic pursuits. For example, a number of offices
have been strategically located on the first floor of McMullen Hall offering
students easy access in one convenient location to services frequently needed.
Offices and services available include:
Admissions and
Records, Financial Aid
and Scholarships, Advising, Center Career Services and Cooperative
Education, International Studies, and Multicultural Student Services. I am particularly proud of the Advising Center where academic advisors meet one-on-one with students to clearly
explain academic requirements and guide students into those support services
they need to be successful while at MSU-Billings. The University also offers a
four-year graduation guarantee to any student willing to commit to specific
requirements of the program.
Other student learning enhancements include access to state-of-the-art
computer labs, distance learning facilities, and use of other current and
emerging technologies. Additionally, the University offers other enrichment
experiences including the honors program and study abroad opportunities.
The University encourages experiential learning through internships,
co-operative educational opportunities, and other field experiences which help
students confirm their career interests and develop additional skills beyond the
classroom needed to prepare for entry into the 21st century workplace. Students
are also encouraged to become involved in the community by engaging in public
service activities.
For students with disabilities, please become familiar with services provided
through Disability Support Services. If you have been out of school for an
extended period of time, you will find Student Opportunity Services extremely
useful.
Again, welcome to Montana State University Billings. Please accept my
personal invitation and encouragement to become involved in all the University
has to offer in and out of the classroom. Above all, enjoy your journey as you
enrich your mind.
Sincerely,

Ronald P. Sexton, Ph.D.
