Getting Ready for the Fall: Your Yellowjacket Checklist

  •  Register for COMPASS Placement Testing and Orientation.

  • Complete a housing application. (Housing and Residential Life Office, Student Union Building, 225)

    • Move into the Residence Halls starting Sunday, August 31 at 9 a.m.
  • Prepare financial aid options, if applicable. (Financial Aid and Scholarships Office, McMullen Hall, First Floor)

    • Verify the status of your scholarship(s) with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.
    • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be eligible for student loans, grants, and work-study.
      • Visit www.fafsa.gov.
      • Type in the MSU Billings code (002530) under the School Selection tab.
    • Check your financial aid status with MSU Billings.
      • Log into MyInfo.
      • Select “Financial Aid”.
      • Select “My Eligibility” to find the date MSU Billings received your FAFSA.
      • Select “My Important Messages” to learn about requirements from MSU Billings.
      • Wait for a postcard from MSU Billings directing you to your awards.
        • Log into MyInfo.
        • Select “Financial Aid”.
        • Select “My Award Letter”.
        • Accept or decline awards.
    • Complete entrance counseling and sign a master promissory note if you have accepted any student loans.
      • Log into MyInfo.
      • Select “My Eligibility” to find a link for entrance counseling.
    • Contact the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office at (406) 657-2188 if you have questions.
  • Confirm your attendance with Business Services. (Business Services, McMullen Hall, Basement)

    • Receive a bill in the mail or view your bill in MyInfo by the third full week of August.
    • Confirm your attendance on MyInfo in order to have financial aid applied to your bill.
      • Log into MyInfo.
      • Select “Student Services”.
      • Select “Student Records”.
      • Select “View Web Bill”.
      • Select “Select Term”.
      • Select “Confirm Attendance”.
    • Pay in full by September 5 or set up an installment payment plan.

      • Installment payment plan payments are due by the following dates:
        • Installment One: September 5
        • Installment Two: October 1
        • Installment Three: November 1
        • Installment Four: December 1
    • Pay online.

      • Log into MyInfo.
      • Select “Electronic Billing and Payment”.
      • Select “Term”.
      • Select “QuikPay”.
      • Select “Make a Payment”.
      • Follow the steps in QuikPay with choosing payment amount, method, etc.
  • Apply to become a part of the Student Opportunity Services/TRiO Program. (SOS/TRiO, Library, 141)

    • Qualified applicants are low income, first-generation college students (neither parent has a four-year degree), and/or have a documented disability.
    • The priority application deadline is August 29. Applications with referrals are accepted until September 19.
  • Purchase a parking permit. (University Police, Parking Garage, Southwest Corner)

    • Pay with cash or check with University Police.
    • Pay online.
      • Log into MyInfo.
      • Select “Parking Services”.
    • Have your license plate number ready.
  • Purchase a U-Card. (Admissions, McMullen Hall, First Floor)

    • Be ready to have your photo taken.
    • Carry your U-Card with you.
    • Show your U-Card at university offices, in the library, and for free admittance into campus activities.
  • Purchase books at Jackets and Company. (Jackets and Company, Student Union Building, First Floor)

    • Save five percent off of your textbook order by reserving books through the VIP Textbook Reservation Club.

      • Choose from new, used, and rental book options.
      • Get your books packaged and pick them up at your convenience.
      • Get early access to the Textbook Buyback event at the end of the semester.
      • Save five percent off of MSUB-imprinted merchandise and receive special sale offers throughout the semester.
    • Keep books in the packaging until your instructors confirm you have the correct books.
    • Keep your receipt in case you need to return books, which is only allowed during the first two weeks of the semester.
      • Provide an updated schedule that shows you have dropped a course in order to return books.

  • Attend New Student Day on Tuesday, September 2.

  • Review your class schedule. (MyInfo)

    • Print your class schedule the day before classes start.
      • Log into MyInfo.
      • Select “Student Services”.
      • Select “Registration”.
      • Select “Student Detail Schedule”.
      • Select the term.
    • Find your class locations.     
    • Check for room changes.
    • Contact the Advising Center with questions.
  • Practice accessing all of your campus computer accounts. (Information Technology, College of Education, 401)

    • Log into a campus computer.
    • Log into your secure student area in MyInfo.
      • Check that your contact information is accurate.
    • Call (406) 247-5755 or visit the IT Student Help Desk for help.
  • Utilize Career Services as you seek employment opportunities. (Career Services, Library, 100)

    • Create an account on CareerLink and upload your résumé.
