Being involved on campus led to a richer college experience.”

ShaylaWhy did you choose MSU Billings?

When I was younger, we would visit Billings for field trips, family visits and athletic competitions. It offered the allure of a bigger city. I really liked all of the amenities that Billings had to offer such as coffee shops, restaurants, parks and entertainment.

What do you like about MSU Billings?

I like the small classes and manageable sized campus. You are never far from someone you know. You get to see friends every day.

It is also pretty easy to be involved. On campus, I’m part of ASMSUB (Associated Students of MSU Billings), Intervarsity , and the unofficial treasurer of the Multicultural Club. I also work in the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Student Affair’s offices.

In the community, I’ve interned with Together We Rise, a non-profit organization for foster kids and Billings Adult Municipal Treatment Courts under Judge Shelia Kolar. For both, I did marketing and promotional work.

Do you have a favorite faculty member or class?

Dr. Brent Kinghorn, Assistant Professor of Management and Business Administration is my advisor and involved in my Capstone course. This final year project involves working with local organizations who are interested in improving their business or starting a new venture. I’m helping them develop a business plan using theories and concepts studied in classes.

What advice would you give to prospective students of MSUB?

I would encourage them to get involved because that is how you enhance your college experience. My freshman year, I was shy and didn’t participate in many campus groups or activities. The years that I was involved were more rewarding. It’s a lot of work, but it is worth it.
