This federally funded program is located on the lower level of the Library. SOS assists eligible students by helping them to remain in school and graduate. To be eligible, students must meet one of the following: be from a low-income background, be a first generation college student (neither parent earned a bachelor’s degree), or have a documented physical and/or learning disability. SOS offers:

  • Peer Mentoring
  • Study Groups/Tutoring
  • Access to Cultural Events
  • Workshops
  • Financial Aid Information
  • Counseling & Referral
  • Midterm Evaluations
  • Newsletters
  • Assistance in Graduation Preparation
  • Return to Learn
  • Student Opportunity Services Activities Club
  • The SOS/TriO program is 100% federally funded at $290,079 annually.

SOS Students Lead and Succeed

48 SOS students received over $93,000 in scholarships from the MSUB Foundation for the 2006-2007 academic year.In the pat three years, 20 SS students have been elected or appointed to Student Senator positions.
2 out of four recent student body presidents have been in SOS.
73 SOS student were on the Dean's List during the 2005-2006 year.

In 2004-2005, over 96 percent of SOS students completed the academic year in "Good Academic Standing."
