“Billings has given so much to us and our growth…we feel it is important to give back to our community.”
This philosophy has guided Underriner Motors and Bill and Mary Underriner in giving time, talents, and financial resources for decades. Focusing on children, education, and helping the less fortunate, the Underriners have “given back” by donating hundreds of volunteer hours and financially supporting many organizations in Billings.
Montana State University Billings is fortunate to be an institution in which the Underriners have taken an active interest. Bill joined the MSU Billings College of Technology National Advisory Board in 2005 and has been the chair of that board since 2006. A consistent employer of College of Technology (COT) graduates, Underriner Motors benefits from the COT’s excellent two-year programs in automotive technology and diesel, and Bill “gives back” by helping the COT progress and grow in all areas, even those outside his business interests. When the possibility of a new health sciences building on the COT campus emerged, not only was Underriner Motors a major financial contributor to the project, but Bill and Mary also helped gather support in the Billings community and statewide. This support was instrumental in the purchase of land for the first new building at MSU Billings in four decades. The Health Sciences Building is a $11 million, 50,000 square foot facility that houses classrooms and laboratories for the rapidly expanding menu of health programs at the COT, including LPN and RN nursing degrees.
Underriner Motors has been an active participant in the Wine & Food Festival since its inception in 1993. They have sponsored multiple events over the years and, in 2006, took their support a step further when Underriner Motors became a Corporate Sponsor of the Wine & Food Festival. Their sponsorship helps underwrite expenses so that more of the funds raised can help the MSU Billings Foundation support the university and its students. Since 1993, the Wine & Food Festival has netted more than $3 million for a variety of programs, most especially student scholarships.
Underriner Motors and Bill and Mary Underriner’s philosophy to “give back” represents the importance of corporate partnerships in helping MSU Billings maintain its commitment to excellence.
