To apply for New Student Scholarships at MSU Billings,
complete and submit the Application
for Admission along with the Scholarship
Application. Scholarships will be awarded on an
ongoing basis with the initial review of applications beginning
in October. Priority will be given to those who apply prior

- Chancellor's
Excellence Award Application
The Chancellor's Excellence Awards are Montana State University Billings' most prestigious scholarship awards, recognizing
academic achievement as well as leadership qualities. Chancellor's
Excellence Awards will be awarded to freshmen entering Montana
State University Billings in September each year. Recipients
receive $3,000 per academic year. Scholars who meet or exceed
all of the renewal criteria may expect to have their awards
renewed for four years for a maximum award of $12,000. Submit your application by January
15, 2008.

Complete the Scholarship Application by February 1, 2008. The
completed application along with all references and essays must
be received by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2008. Need-based scholarships,
fee waivers, or tuition exemptions will be awarded based on
your federally calculated need from the previous academic year.

* Award: $1,300. Definite financial need; must have and maintain
at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA or above; full time enrolled student;
Montana or Wyoming resident; preference given to non-traditional
students.
Hubert & Viola Abrams Scholarship in Memory
of Dora & Charles Hout
* Award: $700. Junior or senior in college; definite financial
need; full time enrolled student; 3.0 GPA or above; resident of
eastern Montana.
Athletic Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $1,000. Scholarship awards are based on participation in
athletic teams, grade point average, and need as determined by
Intercollegiate Athletics.
Frances S. Barker Endowed Scholarship
* Award: 3 @ $1,000 each. Full time enrolled student; definite
financial need; 3.0 cumulative GPA or above, preference will be
given to student athletes.
Bieber Endowment for Students with
Disabilities
* Award: $950. Adults (18 and older) with a disability that meets
the definition of the Americans with Disability Act; must have and
maintain at least a 2.5 GPA or above.
Chet Blaylock Memorial Scholarship
* Award: $650. Full time student enrolled for a minimum of 15
credits per semester; graduate of a Montana high school; Montana
resident; high school GPA of 3.5 or above, university GPA of 3.25 or
above; two letters of recommendation; student who shows "promise in
chosen field".
John & Hilma Boos Memorial Scholarship
* Award: $500. Available to a student with a
disability that meets the definition of the Americans
with Disability Act; must have and maintain a 3.0
cumulative GPA; must be enrolled for a minimum of 9
credits per semester.
Briggs Distributing Co., Inc./John & Claudia
Decker Endowed Scholarship
* Award: 2 @ $1,950 or 1 @ $3,900. Sophomore, junior, senior, or
graduate student; 3.0 cumulative GPA or above; traditional student
preferred; financial need; full time enrolled student. Preference
given to children of employees of Briggs Distributing Co., Inc.
Class status will be waived if applicant(s) are children of
employees.
Jimmy R. Bromgard Scholarship Fund
* Award: Varies. Fund will provide money for tuition, fees, and
books for any person who was wrongly convicted of a crime in Montana
and set free and who wishes to attend MSU Billings.
Carbon County Recognition Scholarship
* Award: 2 @ $500. One scholarship available to traditional
student and one scholarship available to non-traditional student;
Carbon county resident; Montana resident; financial need; full time
enrolled student with a minimum of 12 credits per semester;
available to freshman through seniors in college; traditional
students must have a 3.0 high school GPA and must maintain a 3.0
college GPA while receiving scholarship; non-traditional student
must have a high school diploma or GED and must maintain a 2.5
college GPA while receiving scholarship; traditional student must
have letter of recommendation from high school counselor or high
school teacher; non-traditional student must have letter of
recommendation from community member.
Career Services Student Advocate Outstanding
Service Award
* Award: $250/semester; $500/year. Available to freshmen through
seniors in college; must be an active member of Career Services
Student Advocates; must attend ¾ of the monthly meetings; must
commit to working in Career Services a minimum of one hour per week;
must actively participate in career events such as: info tables,
class presentations, Walk-In Wednesday, Career Fitness Fair, & TRI;
must have and maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA; interested
student must include with their scholarship application, 3 letters
of recommendation and an essay on how they have benefited from being
involved in Student Advocates.
The Bruce H. Carpenter Non-Traditional
Endowed Scholarship
* Award: Up to $3,300. Non-traditional student; Montana resident;
freshman in college; financial need; full time student enrolled for
a minimum of 15 credits per semester; three letters of
recommendation(at least one from a community member and one from a
faculty/advisor); copy of high school or college transcript; letter
describing applicants educational goals and objectives --
description of why they believe campus/community involvement is an
important part of their growth and development and brief description
of the contributions they would like to make to the campus and
community during the time of their undergraduate education. First
time enrolled freshman must have at least a 22 composite ACT score
(or 1530 SAT score) and have a 3.5 GPA OR have an endorsement
from a counselor or advisor. Currently enrolled freshman must have
completed 15 semester hours or less of coursework at the
post-secondary level and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or
better.
Robert J. & Joan M. Carr Access Scholarship
Endowment
* Award: $500. Student with definite financial need; 2.5 GPA or
above; full time student.
Chancellor's Excellence Awards
* Award: $3,000/year for four years. Interested students
MUST complete the 2008 Chancellor’s Excellence Awards application.
DEADLINE to submit application is JANUARY 15, 2008. Traditional
or non-traditional entering freshman; enrolled full time for a
minimum of 15 credits per semester; 26 ACT or 1760 SAT; rank in top
10% of high school graduating class OR have a cumulative GPA of 3.5
or better; (applicants who are home school, charter high school, or
G.E.D. graduates, or applicants who have been out of high school
more than three years, must satisfy the ACT or SAT requirements
listed above); evidence of leadership and a record of
school/community service; three letters of recommendation.
Applicants must sign a declaration of intent to complete a four-year
undergraduate degree conferred by MSU Billings and be enrolled in an
MSU Billings bachelors’ degree program. For more information please

Cobb Foundation Scholarship
* Award: $950. Junior or senior; 3.0 cumulative GPA or above;
Montana resident, full time student; financial need.
Collegiate License Plate Endowed
Scholarships
* Award: 16 @ $500 or 8 @ $1,000. Recipients must have
successfully completed a minimum of 30 semester credit hours at MSU
Billings; Montana resident; 3.0 GPA or above; financial need; full
time student; graduate students are eligible.
Dickerson/Knight Access to Education
Scholarship Endowment for Non-Traditional Women
* Award: $3,600 per year for 4 years. Female; non-traditional
student; full time student; definite financial need; freshman in
college. First time freshman must have a high school GPA of at
least 2.5 OR have an endorsement from a counselor or advisor.
Freshman with coursework at the post-secondary level must have 12
semester hours or less in order to apply for the scholarship.
Finalists must agree to be interviewed by selection committee.
Betty Dunn Memorial Scholarship
* Award: $750. Female student; financial need; full time student;
single parent.
Dick Edwards Memorial Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $1,000. Scholarship awards are based on participation in
athletic teams, grade point average, and need as determined by
Intercollegiate Athletics.
Jorgen Egeland
Memorial Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $500. Available to students who are graduates of high
schools from rural Montana communities with preference given to
students who are graduates from high schools in Sheridan and Daniels
Counties; sophomore or junior in college; 3.0 cumulative grade point
average or above; financial need; full time student enrolled for a
minimum of 12 credits per semester.
Lester & Cora Engdahl Memorial Scholarship Endowment
* Award: $1,000. Recipients must be graduates of
Garfield County High School; available to incoming freshmen through
seniors in college or graduate students, enrolled in an
undergraduate, graduate or vocational degree program; must have and
maintain at least a 2.5 GPA; preference given to students with
financial need; traditional students must be enrolled full time with
a minimum of 12 credits per semester, non-traditional students may
be part time with a minimum of 6 credits per semester; recipients
should demonstrate the drive and ability to enroll and graduate in
their chosen field. Preference will be given to an incoming freshman. If no incoming freshmen meet the above criteria, the
scholarship may be awarded to a previous recipient or upperclassman
who meets the criteria.
Facilities Services Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $800. Recipient must be a full time employee of MSU
Billings Facilities Services or an immediate family member of a
full-time employee or retired employee of Facilities Services.
Flooring Installation Careers Scholarship
* Award: Varies. Available to students enrolled in the Flooring
Installation class at the College of Professional Studies & Lifelong
Learning. For more information on the application process and
deadline date contact the College of Professional Studies & Lifelong

Edna Frost Bookstore Scholarship
* Award: Two awards, each covering up to $5,130 for tuition and
fees for the academic year. One male and one female recipient; 3.0
GPA or above; financial need; Montana resident; must have completed
two semesters as a full time student at MSU Billings; full time
student.
Graduate Studies Student Endowed
Scholarships
* Award: 3 awards @ $1,000. The awards will honor Drs. McRae,
Waterman, and Wilson. See the Office of Graduate Studies regarding
application, criteria and deadline date.
John F. and Winifred M. Griffith Endowed
Scholarship
* Award: 3 awards, each covering up to $6,500 for tuition, fees &
instructional supplies for the academic year. Full time student;
sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student; 3.0 cumulative GPA
with at least a 3.25 GPA in major field of study; recipient must
demonstrate academic and leadership potential; students enrolled in
the College of Technology or who are majoring in theatre are not
eligible for scholarship; students must not be on academic or
disciplinary probation; students receiving the scholarship are
eligible to continue to receive the scholarship by annually
reapplying on the Scholarship Application for Currently Enrolled and
Returning MSU Billings Students which must be submitted to the
Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships by February 1st.
Renewal recipients will receive preference as long as they show
progress towards their degree and improve their GPA in their chosen
discipline.

Scholarship Endowment
* Award: $475. Scholarship funding for an upper division Honors
Program student involved in an upper division research project
(typically a year-long project). Contact the Director of the

selection process.
Paul & Patti Gunville Athletic Scholarship
Endowment
* Award: 4 @ $1,000. Recipients must be student athletes involved
in one of the following minor sports at MSU Billings: Golf, Soccer,
Cross Country or Girls Softball.
David & Barbara Hawkins Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $300. Employee, spouse, or child of employee of
Treasure State Electric, Premier Realty, Inc., LAIS Development, or
Premier Development, Inc.; 2.0 GPA or above; full or part-time
student.
The Haynes
Foundation Scholarships
* Award: $2,000 per year. Number of awards to be determined.
Undergraduate student; Montana resident; full time student enrolled
for a minimum of 15 credits per semester; 3.5 GPA; financial need.
Incoming freshman must also have 23 ACT or 1590 SAT scores and must
be enrolled in a 4-year degree program. Scholarships may be
renewed. Scholarships are not available to music or music education
majors or student athletes participating in men’s basketball,
women’s basketball, or women’s volleyball.
Hearst Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $440. Recipient must be of Hispanic decent; full or
part-time student with preference given to full time; 2.5 GPA or
above; evidence of community or extracurricular involvement;
available to freshmen through seniors.
Heisey Foundation Scholarships
* Award: Varies. Scholarships awarded to students who have
graduated from specific high schools in north central Montana to
include the following high schools: Augusta, Belt, Brady, Browning,
Cascade, Centerville/Sand Coulee, Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank, Dutton,
Fairfield, Fort Benton, Geraldine, C.M. Russell, Great Falls High,
Highwood, Lincoln, Power, Shelby, Simms, North Toole County, and
Valier; sophomore, junior, or senior in college; selection based on
those who will receive the most benefit from the scholarship.
Homesteader's Scholarship
* Award: 4 @ $2,000 and 2 @ $1,000. $2,000 recipients must be
graduates of high school in Petroleum County; traditional or
non-traditional students; freshmen through seniors in college; high
school GPA of 2.0 or university GPA of 2.5; full time student;
definite financial need. $1,000 recipients must be graduates of
high school in Garfield County; traditional or non-traditional
students; freshmen through seniors in college; high school GPA of
2.0 or university GPA of 2.5; full time student; definite financial
need.
Jamison Scholarship Fund
* Award: 2 @ $1,000. Available to freshmen through juniors in
college; financial need; full time student; one scholarship awarded
to a student enrolled in a program of study at the COT, the second
to a student enrolled at the main MSU Billings campus; preference
given to students who are graduates of a high school in Golden
Valley or Wheatland Counties or students who are residents of Golden
Valley or Wheatland Counties.
Carolyn C. Johnson Memorial Scholarship
* Award: 2 @ $1,000. Single parent; sophomore (if no qualified
sophomore, a junior may be selected); definite financial need;
Montana resident; 2.5 or above cumulative GPA; preference given to
full time student enrolled for 12 credits or more per semester;
recipient must be working toward a four-year degree program (either
B.S. or B.A.).Recipients are eligible to receive scholarship
remaining three years of college if all criteria are
maintained.
"Hardy" Kindler Memorial Endowed Scholarship
* Award: 3 @ $1,150. Eastern Montana or Northern Wyoming resident;
male; sophomore or above; full time student; 3.0 GPA; financial
need.
LIFTT Scholarship
* Award: 2 @ $250. Available to students with a disability that meets the
definition of the Americans with Disability Act. One scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in a program of
study at the COT; one scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in a
degree program on the main MSUB campus.
McMullen Golden Years Endowed Scholarship
* Award:$1,150.Incoming freshman; Montana resident; 3.5 GPA;
financial need; full time student.
Men’s Basketball Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $1,000. Scholarship awards are based on participation in
men’s basketball, grade point average, and need as determined by
Intercollegiate Athletics.
Metz Family Scholarship Endowment
* Award: $350. Non-traditional student; must have financial
need; 2.5 cumulative GPA or above; full or part time enrolled
student.
Brent Montague Merit Scholarship
* Award: $1,000. Available to a Yellowjacket student athlete who
has exhausted his or her athletic eligibility; 2.5 GPA or above;
must need 32 credits or less to graduate; must demonstrate
outstanding citizenship qualities.
Montana Center on Disabilities Undergraduate
and Graduate Scholarships
* Award: 8 undergraduate @ $1,000; 2 graduate @ $1,000. Student
with a disability that meets the definition of the Americans with
Disability Act; Montana resident; 2.5 undergraduate GPA or 3.25
graduate GPA; financial need; undergraduate students must be
enrolled for at least 9 credits, graduate students at least 6
credits.
Morningstar Non-Traditional Endowed
Scholarships
* Award: 5 @ $500. Madison and/or Ruby Valley resident given
preference; graduate of a Montana high school; Montana resident; 2.5
GPA or above; financial need; part or full-time student;
non-traditional student; student enrolled in undergraduate,
graduate, or vocational degree program.
Morningstar Traditional Endowed Scholarships
* Award: 4 @ $1,000. Graduate of high school in Madison County
(includes Sheridan, Twin Bridges, Ennis, & Harrison) given
preference; graduate of a Montana high school; Montana resident;
incoming freshman in college; 3.0 GPA or above; full time student;
student enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or vocational degree
program.
MSU Billings Alumni Association Scholarship
* Award: $1,000/year for four years. Recipient must be related to
an alumnus of MSU Billings (EMC); incoming freshman in college;
graduate of an accredited high school; full time enrolled student;
financial need; evidence of leadership, community service, and
scholarship ability; written statement of personal/educational goals
and objectives; major in B.A./B.S. degree program at MSU Billings;
minimum of three letters of recommendation. First time enrolled
freshman must also have one of the followings: cumulative GPA of 3.5
or above, rank in top 10% of high school graduating class OR have an
ACT score of 26 or better/SAT score of 1760 or better. Continuing
freshman must have a 3.5 GPA or above and have earned 15 semester
credits or less to apply.
MSU Billings Foundation General Scholarship
* Award: 4 @ $1,000. Available to freshmen through seniors in
college; 3.0 GPA or above; full time student.
MSU Billings Foundation Memorial Endowed
Scholarship
* Award: 2 @ $700. Incoming freshman; must have ranked in the top
10% of high school graduating class; financial need; full time
student; 2.5 GPA or above.
MSU Billings Recognition Scholarship
Endowment
* Award: Number of awards varies, ranging from $100 to $1,000.
Scholarships awarded to any student enrolled at MSU Billings who
exhibits the potential and dedication to succeed; freshmen through
seniors; full time student.
MSU Billings Retiree Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $500. Undergraduate student; financial need; 3.25
cumulative GPA or above; enrolled for at least 9 credits per
semester; preference will be given to children, grandchildren, or
legal ward of retired employees of MSU Billings (or predecessor
entity, including COT) or the MSU Billings Foundation.
MSU Billings University Women Endowed
Scholarship
* Award: $500. Relative of a MSU Billings faculty member. If no
relative of a MSU Billings faculty applies for scholarships, then
employees of MSU Billings and employees of MSU Billings Foundation
who are at least .50 FTE as defined by the employer and taking at
least six credit hours per semester may be considered.(Relative is
defined as spouse, children, niece, nephew, and grandchildren.)
New Montanan Scholarship Endowment
* Award: $400. Available to non-resident students; must have and maintain at
least a 3.0 GPA; available to freshmen through seniors in college.
Nicholson Single Parent Scholarship

* Award: $475. Single parent; must have and maintain at least
a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

* Award: $500. Female;

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
* Award: $1,000. Transfer student from Miles Community College;
3.25 cumulative GPA or above; full time enrolled student; one letter
of recommendation must be from Phi Theta Kappa advisor.
PPL Montana Women’s Softball Endowment
* Award: $700. Scholarship awards are based on participation in
women’s softball, grade point average, and need as determined by
Intercollegiate Athletics.
Jean King Rahn Memorial, P.E.O. Chapter E
Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $750. Female student; junior or senior in college; 3.5
GPA or above; financial need; full time student.
Red Lodge Lions Club Scholarship
* Award: $500. Non-traditional student; resident of Carbon County;
additional criteria to be determined by Red Lodge Lions Club.
Rocky Mountain Bank Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $875. Financial need; 3.0 cumulative GPA or above;
preference will be given to employees, or the spouses or children of
employees, of Rocky Mountain Bank who also meet the first two
criteria; preference will be given to applicants from Rocky Mountain
Bank’s local markets who meet first two criteria. Rocky Mountain
Bank’s local markets include: Kalispell, Bigfork, Plains,
Stevensville, Whitehall, Bozeman, Plentywood, Broadus, and Billings.
Mike Ross Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $1,600. Sophomore or above in college; 3.0 cumulative
GPA; financial need; preference given to the employees and family
members of employees of HDA Management L.L.C.
Ellen Shields Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $6,500 annually for up to four academic years. Freshman
in college; student with economic need who is not normally entitled
to scholarships provided by the larger companies based on
achievement; must have and maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA;
traditional or non-traditional student; full time student enrolled
in a four year degree program.
Tractor & Equipment Company Scholarship
* Award: $1,400. Employee, spouse, or child of employee of
Tractor & Equipment Company; full time student; 2.5 cumulative GPA
or above.
Frederick J. Urbaska Baseball Scholarship
Endowment
* Award: $4,800. Scholarship awarded to a high school senior who
will be an entering freshman in college and a member of the
Yellowjacket baseball team; traditional male student; recipient must
be a Billings American Legion baseball player (Royal or Scarlet) who
demonstrated both athletic and academic excellence; high school GPA
of 3.0 or above; full time enrolled student; preference will be
given to student with financial need.

Helen E. Voelker Endowed Scholarship
* Award: $230. Recipient must be a past or present employee of
Westpark Village Retirement Center with at least one year of
satisfactory work experience; 3.0 cumulative GPA or above; financial
need; full time student. If several students meet the above
criteria, preference will be given to science majors and/or
underclassman.
John Weinschrott Memorial Endowed
Scholarship
* Award: 11 @ $1,000. Incoming freshman in college; eastern
Montana resident; 3.5 GPA or above; full time student; participation
in extracurricular activities is a factor. Applicants from Fallon
County (Plevna, Baker, Ekalaka, Willard, or Webster) will receive
first consideration provided all criteria are met.

* Award: 3 @ $100. Eastern Montana resident; freshman in
college; no specific GPA but must have a counselor’s endorsement;
financial need; full or part-time student.
Wells Fargo
Bank Endowed Scholarship
* Award: 2 @ $650. One scholarship awarded to an incoming
freshman in college and one scholarship awarded to a currently
enrolled student; Montana resident; 3.5 cumulative GPA or above;
full time student.
Westmoreland Resources in Hardin/Big Horn
County Scholarship
* Award: $1,750. Incoming freshman in college; must have ranked in
the top 10% of high school graduating class or have at least
a 3.0 GPA; must have leadership qualities and record of community
service; resident of Hardin School District or School District on
Crow Reservation; full time student. If no freshmen qualify,
scholarship may go to an upperclassman that has at least a 2.5
cumulative college GPA and meets remaining criteria.
Wine Festival Recognition Scholarships
* Award: Range in value from $500 to $2,000. Freshman or
above; 3.25 cumulative GPA or above; full time student; preference
given to students involved in extracurricular activities or show
evidence of volunteer activities.
Women's Studies Book Scholarships
* Award: Number of awards varies, ranging from $50 to $100. For
information concerning criteria and application, contact Sue Hart,

Walter E. & Esther M. Woods Memorial Endowed
Scholarship
* Award: $900. Graduate of Saco High School; incoming freshman in
college; 3.25 GPA or above preferred; financial need; participation
in extracurricular activities is a factor; full time student. In
the event no incoming freshman applies or is eligible, the award may
be awarded to an upperclassman.

majors graduating in the year the award is being given. No award
will be given if highest GPA is below the honors level. In odd
numbered years, award will be given to a female and in even number
years to a male. If, in a given year, the male or female recipient
is not qualified, the award will be given to that member of the

Eric Robert Anderson Memorial Scholarship
* Award: 2 @ $1,000. Recipient must be a paid member of Art
Students League and a declared Art or Art Education major; GPA for
the four previous semesters of enrollment (secondary,
post-secondary, or a combination of the two) must be a 3.0 or
higher; student must be enrolled as a full time student for the
following fall semester as the awards will be presented at the
Student Independent Show each April. Interested students must
submit the following materials in a clearly marked manila envelope
indicating the applicant’s name and “Eric Robert Anderson Memorial
Scholarship Application”, along with all of the requirements listed
below, to the MSU Billings Art office secretary, First Floor,
Liberal Arts Building: (1) a resume and artist’s statement; (2)
a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation, at least one from a
faculty member; (3) a minimum of 5 slides of 5 separate works.
Digital format submissions are acceptable but images must accurately
represent the works as a viewing of the works themselves may be
requested by the selection panel. Digital format images must be

for four years prior to the award; successful demonstration of

Recipient must be a graduate of a Montana high
school or Montana home school; available to an
elementary education major or a student seeking an Arts
& Science degree with a Teaching Certificate Option;
must have and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA; sophomore in
college.
Provided the sophomore recipient maintains the criteria,
the scholarship will remain with the same student for
their junior and senior year in college.
Should the recipient not maintain the criteria, a
new recipient will be selected to receive the
scholarship.

* Award: $1,250. Special Education major; 3.0 GPA or above; full
time student; junior or senior in college; participation in
extracurricular activities is a factor.

in Montana schools or human services; letter of support from the
