How We Did It
Gathering the Aerial photo:
In this process, we went to terraserver.com and searched for the town of Nye. After we found Nye, we went to the aerial photo
and proceeded to search until we found the area. We then used the Print Screen button and pasted these images into Paint Shop
Pro 7 where we moved them together and placed them in their places by looking at the pixels.
The Land:
In this process, we downloaded a DEM file from Montana NRIS site. From there we took this file into the Global Mapper software
where we got the piece of the valley we needed. We exported this piece as a DXF file type and proceeded to edit it in AutoCAD
2002. This file was then exported from CAD into a 3DS file and opened in 3D Studio Max 4.2. In Max, we took the aerial photo
we pieced together and overlaid this onto the model by using 3D Max mapping and materials. Cameras we then rendered creating
the movies you see in this website.
The Cabins:
In this process, we took all the field data we collected from the trip and started to create 3-D models using AutoCAD 2002.
Once the models we complete, we exported them as 3DS files and imported them into 3D Studio Max 4.2. Once in Max,
we began to apply the materials to make the cabins look as they once were. Once all the materials were applied, the cabins
were set on their piece of land that was created in AutoCAD Land Development 2000. Cameras were rendered and movies
were created.
