The mission of Safe Zone is to promote an inviting and inclusive enviornment that is emotionally and physically safe for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff. This is achieved through (1) increasing awareness and education abotu LGBTQ+ identity, (2) developing and expanding MSUB's network of LGBTQ+ allies as well as increasing visibility of designated ally Safe Zones on campus, and (3) developing strategies to mitigate heterosexism and transnegiativity.

Members of Safe Zone consist of a team of interdisciplinary staff, faculty and students within the university who are committed to raising awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community through education, training and support It is our belief that promoting a campus enviornment that is more accepting and tolerant is beneficial to the growth and development of the MSUB community in general. The Safe Zone symbol identifies members throughout the community and indicates these individuals provide a safe place to talk and/or seek support.

Since the program has several goals related to increasing awareness, expanding an ally network, decreasing bias, your participation in the program can continue as much as you like, or you can simply participate in the workshop. Regardless of your commitment, the time that you spend in the workshop aids in continuing to increase the positive and supportive messages of the LGBTQ+ community and help make our campus a more welcoming place for people from diverse backgrounds.
