We are committed to the Tech Prep effort for two main reasons.
First, Tech Prep is good for students, creating significant benefits
and incentives for them to pursue technical education and training
after high school. The labor market of the future will require some
postsecondary education for over 80% of the workers, and workers
with technical skills will make up over 60% of the labor force.
So finding ways to help and encourage students achieve postsecondary
technical education is important, both to them and to the economy.
Second, we support Tech Prep just simply because it makes so much
sense. It is logical and effective to create clear pathways and
smooth transitions for students moving from secondary to postsecondary
levels. It is effective to remove barriers and duplication of effort,
so students can progress through their postsecondary technical education
without unnecessary delay or costs. Articulation Agreements between
high schools and colleges create college Tech Prep credits for equivalent
course work completed and competencies achieved in high school classes.
The Tech Prep credits created by these Articulation Agreements help
students save time and money in pursuit of an associate degree or
certificate in college. |
