Special Requirements
Prior to starting the Process Plant core classes, students must prove their math and English skills. This can be done through approved college transfer credits, appropriate scores on the Compass placement exam or completing refresher classes.

Degree & Certificate Options

With the demand for skilled electrical workers growing and local support from electrical generating companies, the college has created an Associate of Applied Science degree which prepares students for entry level apprenticeship training to work in multiple types of electrical power generating facilities.
 
What you will learn
  • The taking, recording and interpretation of readings and adjustments, start-up and shutdown of plant equipment, daily water treatment tests, and mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • The proper operation and testing of boilers, turbines, electric generators, switch gear, pumps and other auxiliary equipment, as well as the theory of nuclear, fossil fuel, hydroelectric and other systems of power generation.
  • Equipment troubleshooting and preventive maintenance techniques.
  • The use of industrial computer control and associated instrumentation.
  • The use of electrical maintenance procedures to assist mechanical craftsmen in the preparation and repair of power plant equipment.
  • Understanding the principles of electrical circuitry including Ohm's law, AC/DC electrical systems, magnetism and their use within the electrical power generation industry.
