Construction Technology-Carpentry - AAS Degree

Apply Now!

Tools/Special Requirements

Students in the Construction Technology-Carpentry program are required to buy their own tools to use in the laboratory setting. Tools Lists are available online or through the New Student Services office. The College of Technology is not a main vendor for these tools. However, we do invite vendors to our campus at the beginning of each fall and spring semester - to display and sell their tools. We also have vendor lists of businesses that have previously worked with our students. Please note that you can buy any brand of tools.

Career Opportunities
The Carpentry AAS program provides graduates with the skills required of a carpenter in a variety of construction settings common in both rural and metropolitan areas. Occupations within the Construction-Carpentry area include jobs that require some or any of these skills:
building codes
blueprint reading and sketching
estimating
site layout
concrete
framing
interior and exterior finish
cabinet making and installation
decks

Degree & Certificate Options
Upon completion of all the requirements, Construction-Carpentry students earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree. Additionally, students will earn a national certification through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) after each of the four levels (see below). The student is then entered into a National Registry as having proven competence at the designated level.

What you will learn

Upon completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree, students will be able to:

  • Work with hand and power tools
  • Read plans and elevations
  • Perform site layout tasks
  • Layout and build a structure from plans
