photo of the COT campusThe College of Technology (formerly Billings Vocational-Technical Center) was created in 1969 to serve the current and future needs of adults for postsecondary technical training. In 1977, the Montana State Legislature appropriated $1.8 million for construction of new campus facilities. In addition to a $1.5 million federal grant to aid construction, Billings residents showed their support by voting to spend an additional $1.8 million to match state monies for construction of the new campus.

Prior to 1994, the College of Technology was one of five campuses of the Montana System for postsecondary vocational- technical education. In 1994, the College of Technology officially merged with Montana State University- Billings becoming the fourth college of the University. The merger and subsequent sharing of resources brought about new and improved student services such as cooperative education, health services, career services, fee payment options and credit transferability.
