My Interests:

Special Education:  I am interested in disability categories which include Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Behavior Disorders, Developmental Disabilities and Learning Disabilities.  I am most interested in training teachers how to work with children who have challenging behaviors.  See our MSU-Billings website to learn about your options in special education.   http://www.msubillings.edu/COE/SECREC/

Applied Behavior Analysis:  I am a board certified associate behavior analyst by the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB).  See their website at www.bacb.com

Where I've Been Recently:

Enjoying the kids    with students
On the left I am pictured with students at a private school at Wehai, China for children with Autism.  Special Education is not publicly funded in China and without financial support from their parents, many children with disabilities remain at home with grandparents.  Teachers at these private schools must take up collections in order to attend professional development opportunities that are usually held in big cities (not locally) at a cost that is approximately 3 times their annual salary.  The burden of caring for children with special needs falls on parents and those teachers willing to work in these private unfunded schools.  The teachers and assistants at this school were highly devoted to their children's progress.

I was fortunate to have this experience along with several other university faculty in July and August 2007.  We were guests teaching conversational English at Shandong University at Wehai.  The photo on the right is a group of students at the university (accounting and international law majors) who shared conversations in English with me during class.  The Chinese people are terrific hard workers who place a high value on education and educators.
