EDCI 210 - EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

   This course prepares students to use computer technology in the classroom, including adaptive technology, data bases, multimedia, telecommunications, and word processing.

EDU 380-600 CURRICULUM PLANNING AND PRACTICE  (now EDU 381)

   Introduces K-12 music, art, and HHP teachers to the various historical, philosophical, psychological, sociological, and developmental concerns in designing school curricular, including basic teaching strategies. Philosophies of and practical strategies for integration of computer technologies into curricula are explored

EDU 380 - K-12 CURRICULUM PLANNING AND PRACTICE

Introduces middle school, high school, and K-12 pre-service teachers to the various historical, philosophical, psychological, sociological, and developmental concerns in designing school curricular, including basic teaching strategies. Philosophies of and practical strategies for integration of computer technologies into curricula are explored.

EDU 397F METHODS: K-8 

   Examines the purposes, materials, and teaching methodologies of music within the three curricular models - technical, practical, and critical. Links with elementary school disciplines. Performance, aesthetics, and historical topics are also included. Philosophies of and practical strategies for integration of computer technologies and multicultural perspectives into curricula are explored.

EDCI 385-JUNIOR FIELD EXPERIENCE (now EDU 353)

Supervised practical experience in an elementary classroom including structured observation focusing on cultural and developmental characteristics of children; working with teachers on individual diagnosis of students needs and prescription of students activates and assisting small groups of students in accomplishing learning tasks.

EDCI 441-MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION

   Acquaints students with the history, philosophy, goals, teaching strategies, curricula, and practices of multicultural education in order to prepare teacher for dealing with and affirming the diversity of America's increasingly pluralistic classrooms. Deals with racial, cultural, and other forms of diversity in the United States and Montana

EDU 412 -800 TEACHING THE BILINGUAL/MULTICULTURAL STUDENT

   Provides a basic background for multicultural and bilingual teaching. Includes foundations and emphasis on the development of bilingual education, the development of minority group children, sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic issues, and the variety of program responses to addressing the needs of minority group children. Also includes a theory-into-practice component that explores curricular approaches to the specific subject areas.

EDCI 492 T.E.A.M. SEMINAR

Course is designed for students participating in the T.E.A.M. Indian Professional Development grant.  Course will cover academic, financial, and cultural support to students in this program.

Course is designed for students participating in the IEDIA Indian Professional Development grant.  Course will cover academic, financial, and cultural support to students in this program.

 

EDCI 493-434 SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

EDCI 593-434 SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

This is an introductory course on second language acquisition (SLA).  Topics will include the process of acquiring a second or additional language; individual differences in language acquisition; the role of input, and similarities and differences in L1 (first language) and L2 (second language) acquisition.  The course format will include readings, discussions, and student presentations. It will examine speaking in a second language from several perspectives: theory, pedagogy and materials.

 EDCI 553 INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES IN M0VEMENT, THE PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS

Provides an in-depth look at methods and techniques for integrating the arts (creative drama, visual art, creative movement, and music) across the elementary curriculum.  Participants will learn to design arts-based activities that enhance the basic curriculum, encourage communication, and develop critical thinking skills and creativity.  They will learn techniques and methods for providing meaningful arts experiences and understand the value of the arts as a bridge across student differences.

EDU 221 ED. PSYCH. AND MEASUREMENT

Focuses on Human learning as it provides the basis for instruction and classroom management.  Provides comprehensive coverage of the principles, concepts, and implications of Human learning from classical, operant, social learning, and cognitive paradigms.  Covers measurement, similarities and differences in learners, management and discipline strategies, and related corollaries of human learning applied to instruction.

  MUSI 207 MUSIC OF THE WORLD

        Introduces students to the uses and functions of music in various cultures.  The style of music used and performance of music in selected cultures of Africa, Latin America (including jazz), North America, Asia, and the Middle East as well as folk music of Europe will be explored.
