Dr. James D. Robertson earned his B. M.Ed. and M.M. from the University of Montana and the Doctor of Arts in Trombone Performance and Conducting from the University of Northern Colorado. He is currently Professor of Low Brass at Montana State University Billings. An active soloist and performer, he is principal trombonist with the Billings Symphony and a member of the Yellowstone Brass Quintet. He is a regional clinician for Selmer Band Instruments and plays the Bach trombone exclusively. He is active as a guest conductor, trombone soloist, clinician and adjudicator.
He has taught in the public schools of Seattle, Washington and on the faculties of the University of Montana, Central Michigan University, Shepherd College (West Virginia), Eastern Oregon University and the University of Northern Colorado.
He is a past-president of Montana Music Educators Association and a past national chair of the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference. He is currently chair of the Constitution Committee of the International Trombone Association. Other professional affiliations include the Montana Bandmasters Association, the College Band Directors National Association and the International Bandmasters Fraternity, Phi Beta Mu.
