STAT 217 Intermediate Statistical Concepts

Course Description

4 credits
Prerequisite: STAT 216
Covers one and two sample tests and associated confidence intervals for means and proportions; one-way analysis of variance; F-tests; multiple comparisons; correlation; contingency tables; and distribution-free methods.  Emphasizes statistical analysis using the computer.

Learning Outcomes

  • Conduct simple descriptive and inferential statistical analysis such as confidence intervals and hypothesis testing of proportion, mean and variance,

  • perform and interpret one-way ANOVA,

  • perform and interpret two-way ANOVA,

  • perform simple and multiple linear regression analysis and and interpret the result,


  • perform chi-square tests and interpret their results, and

  • use computer software packages such as SPSS to perform descriptive and inferential data analysis.
