The success of the on-campus recruiting program depends on everyone doing their part to confirm that MSU Billings is a source of bright, enthusiastic, reliable candidates!

Employers expect a full schedule of candidates who are dressed professionally, are well informed about the company, and are on time; see "Rights & Responsibilities as a Job Seeker" from NACE.

To ensure that employers' expectations are met, please comply with the guidelines below to make your interview experience an excellent one.

Registering for the Interview

Signing up to interview with an employer is an expressed commitment on your part to participate at the designated date/time. Be sure to first research the employer, confirming that you wish to submit your résumé and conduct the interview.

Interviews are not for "practice." If you would like a mock interview, visit Career Services on any Walk-In Wednesday (from 10-noon) and staff will help you practice your interviewing skills.

Canceling an Interview

If you decide to cancel an interview, you must give AT LEAST TWO DAYS' NOTICE to allow Career Services enough time to fill the interview slot you vacate.

If the employer has already received a copy of your résumé, you also must contact the company representative to explain your decision. We will provide the recruiter's name and phone/email. If you do not explain this cancellation to the employer IN ADVANCE, your absence will be considered a "no-show."

In the event of sudden illness or personal emergency on the day of the scheduled interview, you must contact Career Services NO LATER THAN 8:30 A.M. Excuses may be subject to verification.

Failure to comply with the cancellation policy will result in the immediate loss of your interview privileges. To regain those privileges, you must submit a letter of apology to the recruiter with copies sent to the Dean of the College in which you are enrolled and to the Career Services office.

No-Show Policy

Failure to show up for a scheduled interview will result in the immediate loss of interviewing privileges and résumé referral including CareerLink.

To request reinstatement of interviewing privileges, you must submit a letter of apology to the recruiter with copies sent to the Dean of the College in which you are enrolled and to the Career Services office.

If you have questions about these policies, please contact Career Services at 657-2168.
