      Gorgeous early fall afternoon. Solid steps, firm handshakes, and Mr. Augie Aga, Cherry Creek Radio (CCR) Billings Station Manager, welcomed Pat Reuss and me to his office where all the inspiration is generated and the magic begins. Thirty seconds into the conversation Augie had left a lively and engaging first impression. He commented that the industry has been picking up gradually after the economic recession; the situation is especially steady and promising in Montana compared to other states. Being sensitive to the market change, CCR has been able to adjust its strategies and stay on top of the economy.

    Cherry Creek Radio is a small private radio group that owns radio stations in the western part of the US. In Billings Cherry Creek Radio has four stations:  News Talk 910 KBLG, Y93.3 KYYA Hot AC, 94.1 KRKX Classic Rock/AOR, and The Zone 96.3 KRZN New Rock. 

  “Character, Courage, Commitment, Curiosity, and the ability to use a Calculator” are the essence of the CCR bunch. Their team of 15 members includes DJs, program directors, on-air engineers, sales and office assistants who work diligently to advance current programs and develop new possibilities. Augie said that it’s exciting for CCR to introduce new people with unlimited potential and talent to the radio business. He encourages students of all majors to check out opportunities with the CCR team.

     CCR has been a loyal Platinum Partner since the Career Services Employer Partnership Program began. The relationship, as well as trust and confidence, are growing steadily over time. Augie said, “It’s been better than I expected. Career Services has gone above and beyond as far as increasing our visibility on campus and to the public. It’s definitely been a great marketing investment over the years.” 

     After the interview, Augie invited us to stay for a private tour where he showed us how radio works its magic. It is amazing to see advanced technology and different functions that solve the whole puzzle. By the end of the tour, it was clear that CCR is an arena of opportunities and possibilities for all talents to shine. Do not hesitate in front of an open door: Step in and bring on what you’ve got!
