Billings
Chapter for the Prevention of Elder Abuse was formed to
improve the lives of the elderly and developmentally
disabled adults.
We develop public awareness and informational
programs concerning the elder abuse in our community;
provide education to health caregivers, law enforcement,
the elderly and their families and the public at large;
provide Gatekeeper training and re-training to
volunteers, teaching them how to identify at risk elders
and bring them in contact with community resources.
Gatekeepers are individuals who have contact with
vulnerable adults during the regular course of their
work.
The BCPEA Elder Support Worker serves as first
responder to each Gatekeeper referral.
When a call is received, the ESW will assess the
situation and offer assistance accordingly.
A referral may be addressed immediately by the
ESW, referred to one of the community services, to Adult
Protective Services or the ESW may work in conjunction
with one or more agencies.
All calls are managed in a professional and
confidential manner.
Elder abuse includes physical, sexual,
psychological, neglect and/or financial exploitation. |

Two registered nurses help with medication
set-ups and generally keep an eye on the health of our

The
Friends Project offers two programs to individuals over
60 years of age:
The Phone Friends Program and The Elder Friends
Program.
Both programs are staffed by dedicated and
well-trained volunteers.
The Phone Friends volunteers call assigned
clients on a regular basis, a time that meets our
clients needs.
Phone Friends will converse with the client and
also check on the client’s well being.
Some calls will last only a few minutes, others
an hour, depending on needs and schedules.
Elder Friends actually visit their assigned
clients, following a mutually agreed upon schedule.
Elder Friends provide much needed socialization
to isolated, homebound elders, often times accompanying
their clients on outings.
Both programs are designed to provide a check-in
mechanism for homebound and isolated members of our
community.
The Friends Project is a service provided by
Senior Helping Hands Program, Inc.
a private not for profit organization. |
