WBCA Recognizes Yellowjacket Women’s Basketball Success in the Classroom
ATLANTA – The Montana State Billings women’s basketball team was recognized Tuesday as having one of the top 25 team grade point averages in Division II as announced by the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association).
“I am proud of our team for their academic performance from the past school year,” Yellowjacket head coach Kevin Woodin said. “Our players work very hard in the classroom and understand the value of an excellent education.”
The Yellowjackets finished 19th in all of Division II with a team GPA of 3.451. Last season, MSUB was 15th with a 3.472 and the year before, 21st with a 3.405.
MSUB was one of just two schools from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference to make the top 25 this year. Saint Martin’s University was fourth with a GPA of 3.591. Michigan Tech led the way with an impressive 3.732 average, followed by Chadron State (3.641) and Rockhurst University (3.635).
The award, giving to NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation who carry the highest grade point average (GPA) for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.
Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women’s basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
