BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings athletic department announced the addition of Andrew Kachel to the Yellowjacket baseball team for the 2010-2011 season. Kachel, a Colorado Springs, Colo., native, played the last two seasons at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo.
While at Northeastern, Kachel hit .316 in 20 games this past season after returning from Tommy John surgery. He lettered his first year for the Plainsmen.
Kachel, a 5-11, 175-pound, catcher, prepped at Doherty High School in Colorado Springs where he was a first team all-conference selection as a senior, and a second team all-league selection as a sophomore and junior. He was named to the Colorado Top 50 team as a senior, and had the opportunity to play at Coors Field.
He batted .486 as a senior with 36 RBI’s, which both were school records. He helped lead his team to the metro championship from 2004-2007. In addition, he participated for the Farmington Cardinals on Connie Mack World Series team and competed for the U.S. Pan American team in the Goodwill Games in 2007.
Kachel joins Northeastern teammate, Rhett Morgan (Greeley, Colo.), and Zachary Smith (Palmyra, Neb.) as additions for 2010-11.
