Box Score
SEATTLE – A hat trick by Jocelyn Charette propelled fourth-ranked Seattle Pacific to a 4-0 victory over visiting Montana State Billings Wednesday evening in women’s soccer. With the loss, the Yellowjackets fell to 8-6-1 overall and 4-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. SPU improved to 14-1 and 7-1 in conference play.
“We played a very competitive first half tonight and went toe-to-toe with SPU," head coach Don Trentham said. “However, in the second half we made a few mistakes that put the game out of reach. We will look to rebound quickly as we need to get a result against Western Washington Saturday night.”
The Yellowjackets came out of the gates firing and had some early looks through the first 30 minutes of the first half. MSUB freshman, Jaucelyn Richter, had a shot that sailed wide left just 2:53 into the contest. Kari Foreman then added a shot that also went left, followed by a shot on goal from Richter.
Freshman Andrea Baytaluke had a shot blocked off a corner kick by Richter 20 minutes old. SPU broke through at the 32:16 mark as Charette fired a shot from 12-yards out off assists from Janae Godoy and Brandi Hamre for a 1-0 lead.
The game remained 1-0 at halftime in a pretty even half as MSUB held a 6-5 lead in shots and both teams had one corner kick and each goalkeeper made one save.
The second half was a different story, however, as SPU outshot the Yellowjackets 12-3 and 17-9 for the game. The Falcons scored three times in the second stanza, highlighted by a pair of goals from Charette in a span of just over five minutes for a 3-0 lead. Hamre scored her second goal of the year in the 73rd minute for a 4-0 lead.
The Yellowjackets were led by Richter with three shots and one on goal. Libby two shots as well. MSUB goalkeeper, Jordan Fenwick, stopped four shots on the night, while SPU keeper, Maddie Dickinson, saved two.
Seattle Pacific was led by the three goals from Charette and she led the team with five shots and three on goal. It was Charette’s 9th, 10th and 11th goals of the season. Godoy added two assists. Hamre chipped in a goal and an assist with three shots and two shots on goal.
The Yellowjackets return to action Saturday at 7 p.m. at Western Washington. MSUB then returns home for the remainder of the regular season beginning Oct. 29, with a 3 p.m. start against Saint Martin’s to begin the four-game home stand.”
