Women's Soccer Travels to No. 4 Seattle Pacific and Western Washington

Game Notes in PDF format

BRIEFLY
The MSUB women’s soccer team returns to conference play this week with two key Great Northwest Athletic Conference road matches at No. 4 Seattle Pacific and at Western Washington.  The Yellowjackets stand at 8-5-1 overall and are 4-2 in conference play and currently are tied with Saint Martin’s for third and two games behind both Seattle Pacific and Western Washington.

WHAT’S AT STAKE
If the Yellowjackets could pull the upsets on the road, they would be the top team in the GNAC come Monday.  MSUB is two games behind both WWU and SPU in the standings, tied with Saint Martin’s for third.  SMU plays at Western Oregon on Oct. 25 and then at MSUB on Oct. 29.  MSUB won at SMU earlier this season.

SCOUTING MONTANA STATE BILLINGS
The Yellowjackets are led by freshman Jaucelyn Richter who leads the team and the conference with nine goals and 24 points.  Fellow freshman Jennifer Larsen has eight goals (good for second in the league) for 17 points.  Richter also leads the league and team with 24 points.  She leads the team with 55 shots and 33 on goal.  Larsen is second in shots with 44 and second in shots on goal with 25.  Senior Chelsea Libby and Richter lead the team with six assists each and both are tied for second in the league in assists.  Kari Foreman is third in goals with six and leads the team and is tied for the league lead with four game-winning goals.  Richter has two game-winners.  Samantha Sandau and Carly Valentine each have two goals on the year.

Between the posts, the Yellowjacks are led by junior Jordan Fenwick who has an 8-5-1 record with two shutouts and 56 saves.  Fenwick has played and started all 14 games, logging 1318:29 minutes and carries a 1.50 goals against average which is good for fifth in the league.  She is third in the league in saves.

As a team, the Yellowjackets have scored 30 goals and have 28 assists on the year for 88 points.  They have 213 shots for a .141 shot percentage.  MSUB has 119 shots on goal for a .551 clip.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK
The Yellowjackets split two non-conference games this past week, including a makeup game at Rocky Mountain College and a home loss to Carroll College.  MSUB came out firing against Rocky, scoring three first half goals en route to a 4-0 win which is the most lopsided win for MSUB this season and the second shutout of the year.  Kari Foreman scored two goals in the game, including the game-winner which put her in a first-place tie for the league lead in game-winners.  Freshman Jaucelyn Richter added two assists and Chelsea Libby added one as both are tied for the team lead with six and are second in the league.  MSUB dominated every facet of the game, including 20-7 in shots, 10-1 in corner kicks and 13-4 in shots on goal.  The Yellowjackets returned home to face Carroll College.  However, it was Carroll who jumped out of the gates early as it scored a goal midway through the first half and then scored the second goal for a 2-0 lead at halftime late in the half on a penalty kick.  Despite the 2-0 score, the Yellowjackets would continue to fight and dominated the statistics, but noting would get through.  MSUB outshot the Fighting Saints 17-7 and 8-3 in shots on goal.  Dominated the corners 9-0 and 19-1 for the two games.  Late in the game, Carly Valentine scored her second goal of the year off a great corner kick from Jaucelyn Richter for a 2-1 score, but that would be as close as MSUB would get.  Carroll goalkeeper, Katie Beall, made six saves and the team had a crucial team save midway through the second half.

SCOUTING NO. 4 SEATTLE PACIFIC
The Falcons enter the week with a 13-1 record on the year and a 6-1 mark in the GNAC.  SPU is tied with Western Washington for the league lead, but WWU beat SPU earlier in the year.  Jocelyn Charette leads the team with eight goals and has four assists on the year for 20 points.  She leads the team with 46 shots and 19 on goal and has a team-high four game winners.  Kelsey Jenkins is second on the squad with four goals and leads the team with five assists.  Megan Lindsay also has four goals.  SPU has scored a league-best 35 goals on the year and only has allowed three.
