Former Women’s Soccer Standout Gress Signs with Colorado Force

BILLINGS, Mont. – Former Montana State Billings women’s soccer standout, Sara Gress, has signed a contract to play with the Colorado Force of the United Soccer League’s W-League for the 2010 season. Gress, a defender at MSUB, will play along the back line for the Force this season, and will serve as part of an internationally diverse team with players represented from Canada, Jamaica, France, Scotland and twelve states from the U.S.

Gress was a four year starter at MSUB serving as the team captain during her junior and senior seasons. She graduated in 2008, leaving tied for the most games played in a career (78) and games started in a career (75). She was a two-time All-GNAC selection, earning the honors in 2007 and 2008 as well as being named Academic All-GNAC both seasons.

Gress also earned NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-Region honors, named first team in 2008 and honorable mention in 2007. She was NSCAA/Adidas All-Region in 2008 as well as being named the team MVP that season.

The Colorado Force is based in Fort Collins, CO, competing in the Western Conference of the W-League. The league consists of 29 teams in the United States and Canada, and is the first and longest-standing women’s league in North America. The league is also used as a feeder for Women’s Professional Soccer, a professional league established in 2009.

The Force look to continue their success from last season, going 4-2-6, making the playoffs and narrowly losing the Western Conference championship. The Force dropped the conference title game to eventual W-League Champions, the Pali Blues. The W-League season lasts from May until conference playoffs at the end of July.

The Force begins their season this Friday, May 28th, taking on the Seattle Sounders women’s team at the Starfire Sports Complex in Seattle. For more information on the Force, go to www.forcesoccer.org.
