Jackets Toppled by Crusaders, 85-47

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket women’s basketball squad could not cool the shooting hands of the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders Saturday, evening at Alterowitz Gymnasium, falling 85-47 and dropping to 10-13 on the year and 3-9 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. The Crusaders shot a dominating 56.1 percent from the field, including going 10-of-16 from downtown. The Crusaders also went 11-for-20 from the line in the game.

Sarah McNamee had a team-high 11 points to go along with three assists and three steals. Callie Kautzmann recorded a team-high five boards with her seven points, while Kalli Stanhope and Rachel Hansen each recorded seven points apiece.

The Crusaders jumped on the board early and never let down, outscoring the Jackets in the first half 43-17. NNU went 15-for-32 from the field in the first half, dumping in six three-pointers. On the other side, MSUB shot just 23.3 percent from the field and were only 2-of-14 from deep.

MSUB was unable to gain any type of momentum out of the locker room, shooting slightly better in the second half, going 9-of-32 from the field and 5-of-13 beyond the arc. McNamee scored eight of her 11 points in the half and the team shot 63.6 percent from the line. 

Four players were in double-figures for the Crusaders, led by Janee Olds’ 16 points and seven boards. Katharina Shulte to Buhne scored 14 points and pulled down six boards, while Lindsay Brady and Brittney Roggenkamp chipped in 11 points apiece.

For the game, MSUB was outrebounded 48-31 and turned the ball over 19 times, while creating 18 Crusader turnovers. The Jackets were outscored 43-16 off the bench and were unable to shut down the paint, getting outscored 32-10.

The Yellowjackets continue their four-game home stand next Wednesday, Feb. 24, taking on nationally ranked, Alaska Anchorage, at 7 p.m. MSUB will then wrap-up the 2010 home schedule on Saturday, Feb. 27, against Western Oregon on senior night. That game will tip-off at 2 p.m. in the afternoon.
