Kayla Ryan Earns CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honor
BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings junior forward, Kayla Ryan, was named to the District 7 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team honors, the organization announced Thursday morning. Ryan joined Seattle Pacific’s, Daesha Henderson, as the only players in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference to earn first team honors.
“Kayla is a very deserving recipient of this award,” said head women’s basketball coach, Kevin Woodin. “She is an outstanding student-athlete who excels both on and off the court.”
The Big Timber, MT native has a 3.93 GPA in education at Montana State Billings. On the court, Ryan leads the team in scoring with 14.1 points per game and 8.5 rebounds. She’s recorded 35 assists, 21 blocked shots and 17 steals on the year, while recording 27.9 minutes per game.
Ryan now moves on to the national balloting, which will take place during the week of Feb. 9. She became the ninth player in women’s basketball history to earn CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors, and the fourth to earn first team honors.
Ryan and the Yellowjackets take on the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Alterowitz Gymnasium starting at 7 p.m. The Yellowjackets are 9-9 on the season and 2-5 in conference play.
