BILLINGS, Mont. – In a match that took just 61 minutes to complete, the Montana State Billings volleyball squad was unable to overcome poor hitting and an inspired Rocky Mountain College team, dropping the three set match, 25-15, 25-18, 25-13.
“We just played un-inspired and got beat by a team that was more motivated than us tonight,” said head coach Steve Smith. “They were prepared for the match and just dominated us from the start. I think we had some decent serves, but we were unable to place the ball and do the right things.”
The Yellowjackets were out hit during the match .380 to a frustrating .044. The Battlin’ Bears had seven blocks while MSUB collected five. The Yellowjackets were led by Devon Crotteau who had 12 kills while Jen Boe added seven.
Rocky was led by Sara Brunner who collected 14 kills and hit for a .370 hitting average. Jillian Stanek added seven kills, while Jessica Overstreet and Ashley Welborn each added five kills. Kristin Barott led the team in assists with 32 of the teams’ 39.
Montana State Billings (7-7) returns to the court at home on Saturday, Sept. 26, against Saint Martin’s University starting at 7 p.m.
