Track Finishes Third and Fourth at Chadron State College Shootout

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings track and field team returned to the track after a weekend off, competing at the Chadron State College Alumni Shootout Saturday afternoon in Chadron, Neb. The women’s team placed third overall while the men placed fourth in the team standings.
The women’s team had great results from Erika Halle in the 200 meters, 55 meter hurdles and the long jump. Halle won the 200 with a 26.97, placed third in the hurdles with a 9.58, and was fourth in the long jump with a best of 5.05 meters.
Justine Simons also had a strong meet for the Yellowjackets, finishing second in the 55 meter dash with a 7.62 and was third in the 200 meters with a 27.16. Katie Thiel and Mary Owen both finished in the top five of the 800 meter and mile.
The women’s 4x400 meter relay team competed on a short distance track and finished third in a 4x340 meter relay race. As a team, MSUB finished with 18 points behind Black Hills State (21) and Chadron State (54).
On the men’s side, the best finish of the day came from Tyson Vanderby, winning the 800 meter run in a time of 2:02.91. Brandon Pearce also turned in decent times in the 200 meters, placing second with a 23.23, and the 55 meter dash, taking fifth with a 6.65.
Nathan Diede took fourth in the 400 meters, turning in a time of 53.54, while Rusty Ewing and Dylan Solberg had top-five finishes in the triple jump and 55 meter hurdles. Ewing place fourth with a jump of 12.81 meters and Solberg placed fifth in the hurdles.
The MSUB ‘A’ team finished fourth in the 4x340 meter relay with a time of 3:02.32, nine seconds ahead of the MSUB ‘B’ team, finishing sixth with a 3:11.79. The men’s squad finished fourth overall with 12 points. They finished just behind Black Hill State (14), South Dakota Mines (21) and Chadron State (54).
The track and field team now takes a long layoff over the holiday season and will return to action Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 11-12, at the Montana State Multi-Events in Bozeman, Mont.
