MSUB Runners Get Rare Experience with Former Olympian
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings track and field team got a rare opportunity this past week. Head Coach Dave Coppock and several of his distance runners (Daniel Lombardi, Travis Hutchinson, Mary Owen and Whitney Mickelson) took 1972 Olympian Jeff Galloway on a scenic run along trails above Billings Friday afternoon during his visit to the area.
“It was great for the team to meet and visit with an accomplished runner like Jeff Galloway,” said Coppock. “It was an honor to have the chance to talk to him about running. He was just a wealth of information and they really absorbed a lot. It’s not every day we get to run with an Olympian.”
Galloway was in town to sign his books and conduct running clinics as part of the Montana Governor’s Cup Marathon preparations. As part of a community training program, The Montana Governor’s Cup Marathon was sponsoring Jeff Galloway’s “Run Until You’re 100 — Injury Free” seminar.
Galloway competed in the 10,000 meters in the 1972 Munich Olympics. He has since authored more than a dozen books on running techniques — everything from getting started, walking, training programs and staying injury-free. Galloway and his wife, Barbara, have also co-authored “Women’s Complete Guide to Running” and “Running and Fat Burning for Women.”
Galloway is based in Atlanta, but gives more than 200 motivational speeches all over the United States each year. He has coached more than 200,000 runners and walkers, and authors a monthly column for Runner’s World magazine.
