Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at UNLV Invite

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Montana State Billings track and field opened the 2010 outdoor season at the UNLV Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the UNLV track complex. The Yellowjackets received numerous top performances, headlined by Nick Wilson’s second place finish in the men’s javelin throw.
Wilson’s throw of 196’-10” (60.01 meters) earned him a national provisional qualifying mark for the event at the national meet later this season. He finished 13 feet behind the winner, Cody Olsen of Utah Valley, who threw 209’-04”.
Also on the men’s side, Logan Mossey finished 14th in the 400 meter run, running a 50.98, which qualified him for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference meet also later in the season.
On the women’s side, Erika Halle set a provisional mark and a new school record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.07. Whitney Mickelson also set a school record in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:57.03, an 11th place finish in the event.
Also setting new school records and gaining provisional marks for the GNAC meet were Mary Owen in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:37.98 and Lexi Halvorson in the hammer throw and discus. Halvorson had tosses of 126’-04” in the hammer and 130’-04” in the discus.
The Yellowjackets return to the track on Saturday, Mar. 26, at the Bauer Invitational, hosted by South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, SD.
