Jackets Improve Marks at GNAC Indoor Championships

NAMPA, Idaho – The 2010 indoor track and field season concluded today for the Montana State University Billings track and field squad, competing the at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships in Nampa, ID. The men’s squad placed sixth overall with 16 points, while the women’s team also placed sixth with 18 points. Both teams had athletes improve on a number of marks and set a combined eight school records.
The men’s squad set four new school records, led by a pair of fourth place finishes in the 4x400 meter relay and the distance medley relay. The team of Logan Mossey, Deshawn Lewis, Nathan Diede and Brandon Pearce broke the previous school record in the 4x400 with a 3:30.56. The distance medley relay team of Mossey, Ryan Blomback, Tucker Shuler and Tyson Vanderby set a new mark with an 11:03.58.
Other marks that were set were by Vanderby in the 800 meter run, breaking his own mark with a 1:58.39, and Brandon Martinez in the pole vault with a new height of 14-1 ¾ (4.31 meters).
On the women’s side, four new records were set by Yellowjacket runners. Erika Halle set a two of those new marks in the 60 meter dash and in the 200 meter dash. Halle’s new time in the 60 was a 8.18, while her new mark in the 200 was a 25.83 which placed her fourth in the event.
Whitney Mickelson improved on the mile record with a time of 5:18.14 to place seventh overall and hit a personal best. The final record that was broken was by the distance medley relay team of Katie Thiel, Sarah McGurran, Mykel Ler and Mickelson, with a time of 13:04.34.
The Yellowjackets now turn their focus to the outdoor season, opening in Las Vegas, NV at the UNLV Invite on Saturday, March 6.
