Halle Competes at MSU Multi-Events
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State Billings track and field sophomore, Erika Halle, took part in the Montana State University multi events Monday afternoon at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Halle was the first MSUB track and field athlete to compete in the Pentathlon, which consists of the 55 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meter run.
“The biggest thing was that she was our first ever Multi-event competitor and we just needed to break into that event at some point,” said head coach Dave Coppock. “She had some good marks in the high jump, long jump and hurdles. It was her best hurdles race this year and the first time she had high jumped. It was a good start and we'll get better every time. We’ll try to work on that event as well as the heptathlon for outdoors, which is one of the GNAC Championship events.”
Halle finished seventh in the competition with 2,639 total points, which also saw competitors from Montana State University and the University of Montana. The five events were held in succession over a three hour period.
In the 55 meter hurdles, Halle turned in a time of 9.37 seconds, one of her top performances of the season thus far. The second event for Halle was the high jump, turning in a top jump of 4’ 7 ¾” while turning in a long jump of 16’ ¼”.
Over half way through, Halle threw the shot put with a best throw of 24’ 4 ½” and finished the event with a time of 2:44.8 in the 800 meter run
Halle and the rest of the MSUB track and field team will have 18 days to prepare for the Montana State University Open on Friday, Jan. 29, in Bozeman at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
