Yellowjackets Capture Both RMAC Freshman Awards
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Montana State Billings freshmen, Lena Macomson and Navin Marimuthu, captured two of the top post season awards in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this week. The pair was named RMAC Freshman of the Year, the conference office announced earlier this week.
Macomson, an Olympia, Wash. native, finished the regular season with a 14-8 record on the season for a .636 win percentage in the number four spot for the Yellowjackets. She was named RMAC Player of the Week for the week of March 10, and helped the Jackets to a 3-3 record in conference play and four seed at the conference championships.
Marimuthu, a native of Chennai, India, finished the regular season with an 11-11 record in the number one position. He led the Yellowjackets to fourth seed ranking in the RMAC Championships and helped defeat Metro State in the first round of the tournament. Marimuthu was named conference player of the week during the week of April 14.
All-Conference awards were also awarded this week, as Ana Juarez was named first team in singles play. Rikki Peach earned second team honors, while Macomson and Beth Ann Baker earned third team honors. Peach teamed with Kajsa (Kim) Karlsson for second team doubles honors as Baker and pairs partner, Megin Madruga, earned third team honors.
On the men’s side, Marimuthu earned first team honors as Franco Valdez earned second team honors in singles play. Valdez and playing partner, Luis Olivera, earned third team honors in doubles play.
