MSUB Announces Desert Stinger All-Tournament Team

BILLINGS, Mont. – 20 players were named to the first and second all-tournament teams of the inaugural Montana State University Billings Desert Stinger Tournament played at Majestic Park in Las Vegas, NV, last weekend as voted on by coaches and the official scorers of each game. Lexi Stephens, of Saint Edward’s University, was the leading vote getter and named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Stephens, a junior from Baytown, TX, hit .632 in the tournament with eight runs scored on 12 hits and two RBI. She swiped three bags on four attempts and had a .684 slugging percentage during the three day tournament. Stephens’ best performance was against Fort Lewis College, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two steals.

Other top vote getters were Kaleigh Starr of Colorado School of Mines, Diana Cezeaux of Saint Edward’s and Joslyn Eugenio of Saint Martin’s University. Starr recorded five hits, three runs and a pair of home runs, hitting .313 for the tournament.

Cezeaux had one of the top pitching performances of the tournament, going 2-1 with a 0.67 ERA in three appearances. She threw 21.0 innings allowing four runs, two earned, on nine hits, striking out 26. Batters Cezeaux faced had a .129 average as she completed a pair of shutouts and threw a one-hitter against Fort Lewis.

Eugenio supplied a lot of the Saint’s offense during their five games, hitting .500 for the tournament with a .875 slugging percentage and a .556 on base percentage. She was 8-for-16 with three runs, three doubles, a home run and four RBI.

For the Yellowjackets, Kelly Parsons and Kaycee Hoffman were both named to the first team. Parsons, a junior from Seattle, WA, had a strong defensive tournament with 31 put outs and five assists for a .947 fielding percentage. Parsons had four runners attempt to steal as she gunned down two for a .667 SBA percentage. Hoffman, a junior from Canby, OR, hit .462 with six hits, three runs, a double, a home run and four RBI. She also recorded 34 put outs with three assists for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
