Charles Named Second Team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America

BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings men’s soccer standout, Sam Charles, continued to add more postseason hardware as he was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-America, announced Wednesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. (CoSIDA). Charles was a second team Academic All-America selection in 2008.
Charles, a senior forward and native of Chiswell, England, finished an impressive career at MSUB as he basically rewrote the school record books. In addition, he added a number of records to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference record book.
He has a 3.6 grade point average in health and human performance. He was a first team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Region selection and was an Academic All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection, too.
On the field, Charles finished his career with 69 career goals, 18 assists and 156 points, including a GNAC and school record 24 goals this season as he led the Yellowjackets to their second best season in school history with an 11-5-2 record and their third 10-plus consecutive winning season, which also is a school record.
He set the career conference goals and points record this season, as well as setting conference marks in consecutive games with a goal (9) and consecutive games with a point (15). Charles was named GNAC Player of the Year for the second time in his career and was a three-time GNAC first team all-conference selection.
Jonathan Hall, a senior defender from Carnegie Melon University was named the College Division CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine National Player of the Year with a 4.0 grade point average in business administration – finance.
Charles is the only student-athlete from a Great Northwest Athletic Conference school to be named to the first, second or third team.
