Charles Tabbed Weekly Best for Third Time
BILLINGS, Mont. – Five goals in two games including a hat trick against cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College, earned Montana State Billings men’s soccer senior Sam Charles Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday. It is the third weekly honor for Charles this season, the most of any player in the conference.
Charles, a native of Weymouth, England, scored his first hat trick of the season and fourth of his career to set the GNAC conference record in a 4-0 win over Rocky on Saturday. Charles has 19 goals on the year and 44 points, tying his own school record and needs just three goals to tie the GNAC record of 22 goals and five points to tie the league point total (49). The Yellowjackets have a minimum of three games left this season.
Charles has 64 career goals, 17 assists and 143 career points. He has 57 goals and 129 points since MSUB joined the GNAC in 2007. Charles broke both the GNAC career points and goals records earlier this year.
The Yellowjackets complete the home portion of the schedule this week with key conference matches versus Saint Martin’s on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. and versus Western Washington Saturday at 3 p.m. MSUB is right in the thick of the conference championship race with a 3-1-2 mark in league play, just one point behind Saint Martin’s heading into this week’s action.
This season ALL MSUB men’s and women’s soccer matches will be FREE on the internet with live video and audio as the voice of the Yellowjackets, Ken Adelblue, will have the call.
