Yellowjackets Fall at Seattle Pacific, 4-1

Box Score

SEATTLE – The No. 24-ranked Seattle Pacific men’s soccer team scored two first half goals and added two more in the second as it downed visiting Montana State Billings Saturday night, 4-1. With the loss, the Yellowjackets’ seven-game unbeaten streak came to an end (5-0-2).

“We are all really disappointed with how we played tonight, head coach Dan McNally said.” "Sometimes no matter how well you prepare for the game and how much effort the team puts in on the field, things just don't go your way. I give a lot of credit to SPU for taking advantage of our poor performance. I have a lot of faith in this group of players and I know they will respond in a very positive manner against Northwest Nazarene on Tuesday."

Seattle Pacific dominated the statistics as it outshot MSUB 19-6 and 10-1 in shots on goal. SPU also won the battle of the corners, 8-5.

The Yellowjackets (8-3-2, 2-1-2 GNAC) were led by Chris Andre who scored the lone goal in the second half as he had two shots and one on goal. GNAC leading scorer, Sam Charles, was held in check as he had just one shot and his league-record consecutive games with a point was snapped at 15 games dating back to last season.

The Falcons were led by four players with one goal each and three assists from Drew Williams. Enis Isufi led the team with six shots and four on goal.

Seattle Pacific (10-2-3, 3-1-2 GNAC) scored two goals midway through the first half to set the tone. Alec Nelson scored off a one-timer from five yards out off assists from Isufi and Williams for a 1-0 lead at the 22:24 mark. Less than four minutes later, SPU found pay dirt again as Elliot Morton scored off Williams’ second assist on a header on the far post off a corner kick.

Andre got the Yellowjackets on the board at 58:17 in the second half as he fired a 19-yard free kick that curved into the upper right corner for a 2-1 score and gave MSUB some momentum.

SPU added the insurance goal at the 67:37 mark on a header by Tyler Schultz and Williams’ third assist 10-yards out off a free kick. Richie Evoy added the fourth goal in the 84th minute as he fired a shot from 16-yards out after a run from midfield.

The Yellowjackets play at Northwest Nazarene on Tuesday in an important GNAC contest. MSUB then returns home for the final three regular season home games beginning Oct. 24 with Rocky Mountain College at Yellowjacket Field on Senior Day. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
