BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings men’s soccer team continued to make steady improvement in the NSCAA/adidas West Region Poll as the Yellowjackets moved up to sixth in the latest poll released Tuesday.
Cal State-Los Angeles continues to lead the West Region with a 9-0-1 record. MSUB’s upset bid of CSULA earlier in the season fell just short in a 2-1 overtime loss in Los Angeles. CSULA was ranked sixth nationally at the time and now is second in the national poll.
Sonoma State is second in this week’s West Region rankings, followed by Grand Canyon University and Great Northwest Athletic Conference member, Seattle Pacific, is fourth. The Yellowjackets and SPU played to a 1-1 tie in Billings, Sept. 19.
Cal State-San Bernardino is fifth, followed by MSUB, Chico State, Cal State-Stanislaus and UC San Diego and San Francisco State are tied for ninth.
The Yellowjackets stand at 7-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the GNAC after a pair of impressive road conference wins. MSUB defeated Western Washington 2-1 in double overtime for its first win in Bellingham in school history. The Yellowjackets then followed with a tough, 1-0 shutout at Saint Martin’s.
MSUB returns home to face Northwest Nazarene Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., in the second game of a Futbol Frenzy doubleheader at Yellowjacket Field. The MSUB women play Central Washington at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s game. Prior to the women’s game, there will be free BBQ for MSUB students with a U-Card. The BBQ is $8 for non students and the festivities are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
This season ALL MSUB men’s and women’s soccer matches will be FREE on the internet with live video and audio as the voice of the Yellowjackets, Ken Adelblue, will have the call. |
