Former Yellowjacket Travis Bunker Signs with ABA Team
BILLINGS, Mont. – Former Montana State Billings men’s basketball standout, Travis Bunker, has signed a professional contract with the Sacramento Heatwave of the American Basketball Association (ABA).
“We are extremely proud of everything Travis did while at MSUB on and off the court”, MSUB head coach George Pfeifer said. “He set a goal to play professionally and it is no surprise he has made that goal a reality. I also know that he is taking some online classes to get his master’s degree. No question Travis is an achiever.”
Bunker, a native of Beaver, Utah, played just one season for the Yellowjackets after transferring to MSUB from the University of Wyoming. Bunker finished the 2008-09 season scoring 13.4 points per game which was good for third on the team. He was second on the team in made 3-pointers with 70 and pulled down a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game. Bunker finished the season second on the team in assists with 104 and third on the team in made field goals with 127.
He was the only player on the team to play and start all 27 games and he logged a team and league-high 1056 minutes for an impressive 39.1 minutes per game.
Bunker not only excelled on the court, but off it as well. He earned the prestigious honor of being named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Sportsman of the Year. He graduated from MSUB in liberal studies and had a 3.47 grade point average while attending MSUB.
He was one of three Yellowjackets named to the GNAC Honorable Mention All-Conference team and helped lead MSUB to a 10-17 record in Pfeifer’s first year. The Yellowjackets did not have anyone named to the all-conference team the year before. The Yellowjackets, picked last in the league entering the 2008-09 season, finished tied for sixth.
