Yellowjackets Land Second Division I Product
BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings head men’s basketball coach, George Pfeifer, announced Wednesday that California State University Northridge transfer, Mike McCrary, has committed to play for the Yellowjackets this season brining the 2009 class to a total of eight.
McCrary, a native of Hanford, Calif., joins fellow Division I transfer Lasha Parghalava from the University of Hawaii in the 2009 class. McCrary, a 6-7, 205 lb. small forward, comes to MSUB as a senior. He competed against former Yellowjacket and 2008-09 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Sportsman of the Year, Travis Bunker, while both were in junior college and in the same conference. Bunker was at the College of Southern Idaho while McCrary was at the College of Eastern Utah.
Prior to Cal State Northridge where he averaged 4.6 points per game, McCrary attended the College of Eastern Utah and was an All-Scenic West Conference selection helping his team go 21-10 his sophomore year. He averaged 15.6 points per game and grabbed 4.8 rebounds that season. He made 67 3-pointers, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc.
“I watched Mike play while he was at CEU and we recruited him when I was at the University of Idaho,” Pfeifer said. “Mike can be a highlight reel in the open court filling the lane and no question he plays above the rim. We like the fact he is long, runs the floor hard and can shoot the ball from three-point land off penetration and kick outs. Numerous schools were seeking Mike’s services and we feel very good about the fact he is coming to us. There is no question he has all the ingredients to have a special year.”
McCrary attended Fresno City College his freshman year and prepped at Hanford West High School graduating in 2002. He was a first team all-conference selection as a high school senior averaging 12.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
