Men’s Basketball Inks Montana Transfer

BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings head men’s basketball coach George Pfeifer announced Monday the signing of University of Montana transfer, Raason Yong, for the 2010-2011 season.  Young comes to MSUB with one year of eligibility.

“Raason has the ability to be special player for us next year,” Pfeifer said.  First and foremost, he has won everywhere he has been.  When you research his background, everyone quickly points out his ‘delightful demeanor’.  A coach, who has been in the business for almost 30 years, said that Raason was in his top 10 for playing hard.  He is a lefty with a really good 3-point stroke and great athleticism.”

Young, a 6-6, 175-pound, forward played this past season at Montana where he averaged 4.5 points in 31 games as the Grizzlies reached the NCAA Tournament as a junior.  He shot 44 percent from the field as he knocked down 56 buckets and 27 triples, which was good for fifth-most on the team.

He scored a season-high 22 points against Boise State where he went a season-best 8 of 14 from the field and knocked down a season-high six triples in 31 minutes of action in just his second game as a Grizzly.  He also knocked down six triples against University of Great Falls (6 of 7) and scored 20 points in 20 minutes against the Argos.

Prior to Montana, Young, a native of Washington, D.C., attended Hagerstown Community College (Md.) where he was a first team All-Maryland JUCO selection and al-region as a sophomore.  He helped lead his team to a 22-9 record and averaged 18.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.  Young shot 45.6 percent from the field, 79.3 percent from the line and 37.1 percent from beyond the arc.  He scored a career-high 42 points in a 117-93 win at the College of Southern Maryland.

He played his freshman year at Missouri State University-West Plains where he averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game helping lead his team to a 27-5 record.

Young prepped at John F. Kennedy High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. He is the second Yellowjacket signee for 2010-11 who competed in the NCAA Tournament this past season.
