Jackets Ink Utah State Transfer
BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings head men’s basketball coach George Pfeifer announced Friday the signing of Utah State University transfer, Jaxon Myaer, for the 2010-2011 season. Myaer comes to MSUB with two years of eligibility.
“We are very excited to have Jaxon on our squad next year,” Pfeifer said. “He is a leader and a winner. Utah State head coach, Stew Morrill, really enhances the IQ of the players who are in his program and no question we are going to benefit from that. At the end of the day, Jaxon knows how to manage a team and can make buckets. He should earn his bachelor’s degree and his master’s degree while he is playing for us.”
Myaer, pronounced My-err, is a 5-10, 170 lb., point guard from Salt Lake City, Utah, played the past two seasons for the Aggies and redshirted one season. He started the first six games of the season as a redshirt freshman in 2008-09 and played in 32 for the season. Myaer buried 23 three-pointers on the year which was good for fourth on the team, as did his 59 three-point attempts.
During the 08-09 campaign, he scored in double-figures in back-to-back games at UC Santa Barbara and at home versus Weber State with 11 and a season-high 13 points, respectively. Versus UCSB, he went 4 of 8 from the field and 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. He tied a season-high with five assists versus UC Irvine.
This past season, he played in 34 of 35 games on a USU team that won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and went 27-8 earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
In high school, Myaer was named the Salt Lake Tribune’s 3A Most Valuable Player at Judge Memorial High School as he averaged 18.6 points and 6.5 assists per game. He earned first team all-state honors in basketball, along with first team all-state honors in football and was a second team all-state selection in baseball.
During his final two years in high school, Myaer helped lead his team to a 46-4 record, a state championship as a junior and a third place finish as a senior. He also was selected as an All-America nominee.
“I feel great about signing here at MSUB,” Myaer said. “Great people, great coaches, a cool community and most of all, an opportunity for success in my life and basketball.”
