Weisz Named GNAC Academic All-Conference
SPOKANE, Wash. – Senior Adam Weisz was the lone Montana State Billings men’s basketball player who was named to the 2009-2010 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Weisz, a native of Melstone, Montana, carries a 3.45 grade point average in business and has played in seven games this year, scoring seven points. Last season, Weisz had a key steal and layup in the season finale at Northwest Nazarene as the Yellowjackets won their lone GNAC road game and finished with double-digit wins for the first time since 2005-06 at 10-17.
A total of 44 student-athletes were named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference team led by 32 women and 12 men. Saint Martin’s had the most among the schools with 11, including nine women and two men. Northwest Nazarene had 10 named to the team, including a league-best four men and six women. Seattle Pacific had seven named to the team (five women, two men).
To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must earn a letter, have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be completing at least their second year of eligibility at their university.
The Yellowjackets complete the regular season schedule this week at Central Washington and at Western Washington. MSUB and CWU battle at 7 p.m. Thursday in a key conference contest. The Jackets enter with a 14-9 record overall and an 8-6 mark in league play while fourth in the standings. Third-place Central Washington enters with a 15-9 mark overall and a 9-7 record in the conference. MSUB and WWU battle Saturday at 7 p.m.
