Women’s Golf Third After First Round of Ranger Invitational/RMAC Event #3
First Round Results
LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Montana State Billings women’s golf teams sits in third place after the first round of the 2009 Regis University Invitational. The Yellowjackets are five strokes behind host Regis and eight off the leader, Mesa State. MSUB fired a 325 on Monday on the par 72, 6-295-yard course. The Ranger Invitational also is doubling as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Event #3 and the final league event of the fall.
The Yellowjackets were led by a 79 from Libby Rutz as she is tied for fourth. Erin Heaney carded an 80 and is tied for eighth, while Kalli Stanhope shot an 83 and is tied for 18th, with teammates Amy Nordeen and Liz Tikriti.
Mesa State leads the team standings with a 317 score, followed by host Regis University with a 320. The Rangers posted their best round score in school history Monday. The Yellowjackets were third with a 325, followed by Western New Mexico (327) and Colorado Christian (338) to round out the top five.
Mesa State’s Jennifer Hilts fired the low-round of the day with a 76 to sit in first place. CCU’s Tedi Thorne is one stroke off the lead (76) and Regis’ Alex Semanko is third with a 78.
The field will complete the 36-hole event Tuesday.
The Yellowjackets entered the tournament in second place in the team standings behind Mesa State as the two teams went first and second in the first two RMAC events this season. The final RMAC event is scheduled for Apr. 12-13, 2010, at a site to be determined.
