Results

HELENA, Mont. – The Montana State Billings men’s golf team finished second at the Carroll College Invitational on Tuesday.  The Yellowjackets entered the day with a five-stroke lead over Rocky Mountain College, but the Battlin’ Bears fired an impressive 281 and 277 in the final two rounds to win the tournament with an 855, 56-hole score.  The Yellowjackets were impressive as well, carding rounds of 291 and 287 on Tuesday for an 870 score.  MSUB senior Jeff Allen fired a 213 and finished tied for first in the tournament.

“I thought we played well for our first tournament of the season,” head coach Shawn O’Brien said.  “We have a lot of depth on this team, therefore it is a competition each week to see who will travel, which will help our team grow.  I’m proud that Jeff Allen played with consistency and he has the potential to be one of the players in the GNAC to watch.”

Allen fired three 71’s which tied him with Marcus Segerstrom and Jacob Good of Rocky.  Segerstrom won in the sudden death playoff.

The Bears had their top four players shoot between 213 and 216 for the tournament.  Good carded a pair of 69s for the tournament on Tuesday after shooting a 75 to open on Monday.  Connor McCracken of Lewis-Clark State carded a tournament-low round of 68 Tuesday.

Lewis-Clark State finished third with an 889 score, followed by Carroll College (907) and Westminster (937) round out the top five in the nine-team field.

Travis Gates fired a 222 (72 – 74 – 76), followed by KC Kindle with a 226 (76 – 78 – 72).  Jake Harr carded a 216 (73 – 73 – 70) and Tyler Nicholas shot a 223 with rounds of 78, 71 and 74.  Chris Richter, playing as an individual, shot a 225 on rounds of 73, 77 and 75.

The Yellowajackets will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the Saint Martin’s Tournament in Lacey, Wash.
